Northern Beaches B-Line

The B-Line Program was an integrated package of service and infrastructure improvements designed to provide more reliable journeys between Mona Vale and the Sydney CBD. Improvements to the road corridor and implementation of bus priority measures improved reliability of bus services affected by congestion at several bottlenecks.

Solution

ARCH Artifex was engaged by Transport for NSW (TfNSW) to assist in four critical aspects of the project.

  • Early Works — the initial engagement was for the provision of Project Management to deliver the early works component of the NBBP, which consisted of the geotechnical and utility investigations. We identified the scope of works, engaged specialist contractors and managed delivery and outcomes that met the projects budgets and timeframes.
  • Utilities — following on from the type and location of various utility assets identified, we commenced the process of engaging with and building relationships with the utility organisations. NBBP was able to reach an agreement on conflict resolution and pathways to be used to complete the project works. This function was handed over to the main contractor once they were engaged.
  • Council Interfaces — the focus was ensuring the integration of NBBP was successful with the various communities along the route. We negotiated with three separate Councils to identify and reach agreement on the delivery of initiatives that provided 'value add' outcomes. Such initiatives included the activation of improved and new pedestrian and cycle paths and links, off-set tree planting strategies and public art-work installations.
  • Engineering — further to the successful launch of NBBP in November 2017, TfNSW decided to develop an option to extend the service to Newport. Our team provided the Engineering Management for both the completion of the concept design and technical input into the Review of Environmental Factors (REF).
