Westconnex New M5

Image of tunnel construction

Australia's largest road infrastructure project, WestConnex is a critical part of a broader plan to get Sydney (and Australia) moving again. With a record investment from the NSW Government in public transport infrastructure, WestConnex has eased significant traffic congestion, created tens of thousands of jobs and connected communities across wider Sydney.

Solution

The CPB Samsung John Holland JV & CPB Dragados Samsung JV engaged ARCH Artifex to assist in two critical aspects of the project;

Procurement Advice
Our team undertook an independent due diligence review of the procurement of the tunnel ventilation system including axial fans, jet fans, dampers and attenuators. The review covered technical compliance, capacity and track record of suppliers as well as their ability to meet program commitments.

The key findings and recommendations provided the steering committee the confidence to proceed with significantly high-risk procurement packages.

Testing and Commissioning
The New M5 project had over 25,000 mechanical, electrical, ITS and control system assets that required testing and commissioning before handover to the operator and the subsequent opening.

A focus of this step was assisting in the planning for the following deliverables; Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Factory I Testing (FIT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning more than one-hundred (100) professionals and trade personal (at the peak of the project).
